Two assets, one electrical balance
PV can supply part of compressor demand when generation and operation overlap. The heat pump still needs a grid strategy for low solar output, startup and seasonal variation. Annual PV generation should not be treated as if every kilowatt-hour is available to the heat pump.
Storage can increase coincidence
Thermal storage may allow midday electrical input to serve a later heat load. The value depends on tariff periods, export value, storage loss and the process schedule. Battery storage is a separate economic decision.
Design the heat project first
PV does not correct a poor source-sink match. Establish the thermal duty, realistic COP and operating hours before sizing generation around the resulting electrical load.
